How Lessons Work

After getting in touch, we will have a discussion about the tutee's needs. This includes the exam board they are following, any difficult topics they are struggling with, and their current level of understanding. Doing this helps me tailor the lesson to their specific requirements.

We can arrange the lessons at a time and place that is convenient for you. Lessons can be held in a public place like a library or café, or at the student's home, whichever is more comfortable.

FAQs

Statistics based on studies about tutoring show how much maths tutoring benefits students and increase the likelihood of passing their exams.
The first tutoring session is an introductory meeting where we assess the student's current level of understanding, identify strengths and weaknesses, and set academic goals. This session typically includes a discussion with the student (and parents if applicable), a brief assessment, and a personalized study plan. It's a great opportunity to establish a rapport and ensure that the tutoring approach aligns with the student’s learning style.
For A-Level maths, having tutoring sessions once or twice a week is common. This frequency allows for regular support and consistent progress without overwhelming the student. The ideal frequency can vary based on individual needs, current performance, and how close the exams are. Some students may benefit from more frequent sessions as the exam date approaches to ensure thorough preparation.
For a successful tutoring session, students should bring the following items:

Maths textbooks and class notes
Homework assignments and any completed work
A calculator (if required for their level)
Stationery, including pencils, erasers, and a notebook

Any specific questions or topics they want to address
Bringing these materials ensures that we can make the most of our time together.
Yes, getting a tutor for A-Level maths can be very worthwhile. A tutor can provide personalized attention, tailor lessons to the student's specific needs, and offer strategies for tackling challenging topics. This targeted support can boost confidence, improve understanding, and lead to better exam results. Many students find that the investment in a tutor pays off with higher grades and a deeper grasp of advanced maths concepts, which are crucial for further education and career opportunities.
It’s best to start A-Level maths tutoring at the beginning of Year 12. This allows ample time to build a strong understanding of advanced concepts, address any gaps in knowledge, and develop effective study habits. However, starting tutoring later, even in Year 13, can still be highly beneficial for intensive revision and exam preparation.
A typical tutoring session should last between 60 to 90 minutes. This duration allows sufficient time to cover new material, practice problems, and review previous lessons. For younger students, 60 minutes is often ideal to maintain focus and engagement, while older students preparing for exams may benefit from 90-minute sessions to delve deeper into complex topics.
One-on-one A-Level maths tutoring offers several benefits:

Personalized attention tailored to the student's learning style and pace
Immediate feedback and clarification of complex concepts
Focused help on specific topics and problem areas, such as calculus or statistics
Development of effective study and exam strategies, including tackling past papers
Increased confidence and motivation in mastering advanced maths topics
This individualized approach can lead to significant improvements in understanding and exam performance, making the transition to university-level maths smoother.
It's best to start revising for exams at least two to three months in advance. This allows ample time to cover all topics, identify and work on weak areas, and avoid last-minute cramming. Creating a revision schedule can help manage study time effectively and ensure a thorough preparation. For major exams like GCSEs or A-levels, starting even earlier can provide additional time for in-depth understanding and practice.
